My Epic Journey from Pakistan to North Macedonia
My Journey to Study Abroad
As-Salaam-o-Alaikum,
I am Ameer Hamza Khan, and today I want to share how I got the opportunity to study abroad and how my journey began.
Guided by Mentors, Inspired to Achieve
First of all, I would like to thank Ma’am Nasira Abid, Principal of Khadija Kazi Ali Memorial High School, where I was working as an Accounts Office Incharge. She was the one who introduced me to the Shams Family Foundation (SFF), a US-registered organization that offers learning and earning opportunities abroad for students.
From Dreams to Global Opportunities
In the fall of 2022/2023, they were offering a scholarship to study BS Computer Science at South East European University (SEEU) in North Macedonia. I was blessed to be selected for the aid scholarship, under which I had to cover my travel expenses, discounted university fees, and dormitory costs. This was still a huge amount, but Alhamdulillah, with the encouragement of my mentors and support from my family, I decided to take this step.
After applying, I was invited for an online interview with Sir Kamruddin Shams, founder of the SFF. I was very nervous, but Alhamdulillah the interview went well, and I was selected. I also had to complete two compulsory course certifications, which I successfully did within a month.

Dubai Stopover & Macedonian Visa Process
Then began the visa process, which took time and required patience. Finally, I received my Dubai visa and flight tickets: Karachi → Dubai on October 4th, 2022, and from there a connecting flight Dubai → Istanbul → Skopje on October 6th, 2022.
Leaving Pakistan for the first time was a dream come true. Arriving in Dubai felt unreal — it was my first international stop and my lifelong dream destination. After spending a short but memorable time there, I received my Macedonian visa from Dubai (as Macedonia doesn’t have an embassy in Pakistan). Then I continued my journey through Istanbul, and finally reached Skopje, North Macedonia.

Arriving in a new country, surrounded by students from different cultures, was an unforgettable experience. For me, traveling to three countries in one journey was not only exciting but also the first step toward achieving my bigger goals.
This journey taught me that opportunities may come unexpectedly, and courage is what turns them into reality.
